Using salesforce cases for medical device customer service (FDA Audit)

My company is a small medical device manufacturer and we are currently using salesforce for customer service and reported problems. I am by no means a Salesforce expert and have been trying to figure out if salesforce can be used for this type of medical device data. This will need to pass an FDA audit in the future.

 

Does anybody use Salesforce for medical device customer service and reported problems?

 

I know that the audit trail was one feature our consultant had asked for and I have since implemented it on some fields. I read somewhere that the audit trail is only kept for 18 months, is this true and if so, how are others dealing with the fact that we need this audit trail data to be available for much longer? I do have back-up data, but this data is not always easy to extract from the spreadsheets.

 

Are there are any apps that can help with this?
