Hey Jenny,
So depending on what you are trying to get at, the answer is yes.
Before I get into creating a custom link, I want to make sure that you've exhausted adding the Documents tab to the default ribbon, basically they don't have to click the '+' to access the documents object. If this would work all you need to do is click the '+' then you will see
'Customize My Tabs' . This will allow you to rearrange which tabs are displayed and in what order.
Now, if this wouldn't work for you, you can always add a custom link and component to your sidebar by doing the following
Setup > Customize > Home > Custom Links
Use the URL:

Now all you need to do is create a home page component, call it Links, and add your custom link to it.
Lastly, go into your home page layout, add the component to the left side and arrange it to your liking. You successfully created a custom link!
