what would cause an opportunity & associated event to disappear from Salesforce?

In an effort to control my Sales reps from "accidentally" deleting records I have already removed the delete button from the opportunity page layout.

 

I have already checked the recycle bin and it is not in there either.

    If you didn't delete it, it wouldn't be in your recycle bin.  :-(

     

    Someone could have changed the name of the Opportunity or Account, that would make it harder for you to find. 

     

    If you had the old Opportunity ID, that would be a perfect way for you to scan for the opportunity.
