My organizaiton has the quick edit feature enabled so you can easily click inside of a record and change the field without having to click "Edit" at the top of the Record. This is particularly useful in the View lists in the tabs (for example, "My Accounts," "All Accounts"). Our users can open this view, hover their mouse above a field, see the pencil icon, and do a quick edit of the field.
Now, we have a custom picklist field in Opportunities that is present on the "My Opportunities," "All Opportunities," views, but the pencil icon-quick-edit feature does not work. Why is that? Is there a way to change this?

There are a few reasons why this might be happening.
If you are using Record Types on your SFDC org you can only use Inline Editing if ALL of the records in the List View are the same Record Type.
Certain field datatypes can't be Inline Edited
