Marketing:
The Marketing Cloud allows you to create targetted marketing campaigns and manage them out of salesforce. You can also use products like Radian6 to listen to social media and take action in Salesforce.
Sales:
The Sales Cloud helps you track your opportunities and collaborate around them. Move an opportunity through various sales stages, present multiple quotes to customers, forecast and plan accordingly.
Service:
The Service Cloud help you manage your service department using Salesforce. Create cases and manage SLAs.
Chatter:
Throughout your Salesforce org, Chatter is enabled to increase communication and collaboration among your employees. It helps you easily bring the right people to the right records in your system and have a conversation about them without email.
AppExchange:
There are 3rd party apps from the appexchange which would allow you to collect electronic payments, calculate taxes, and invoice customers all built into the force.com platform.
Salesforce can do a lot more than what I listed and what it bring to your organization is flexibility. If you're willing to make the investment, you can customize Salesforce to fit your business processes.
