This sounds like it should be simple but I can't make it work...
Ideally I'd like to have an email sent to the assigned-to user on a task record on the task's due date. I couldn't make that happen.
Similarly I tried to do this with a custom date field. I can set the time-dependent workflow action to trigger on my custom date field but then "email alert" is not available as a workflow action.
Any help you can offer would be appreciated!

I don't think you can setup workflow rule email alerts on Tasks ..
