Restrict visibility of Case

Question

Hi - I need to restrict certain cases to particular users.  I thought that I would be able to do that with record types/profiles but it is not working.  They can still bring up the case with a search.  Any ideas?  Do I need criteria based sharing rules?

Pam, you can't as such restrict sharing in Salesforce. You can only open it.

I would suggest restructuring your security such that

1. OWD for case is Private.

2. Then create sharing rules to open up cases to variouls roles, groups and users as you like.

You do need criteria-based sharing rules, unless you can hide all cases by profile   Record Types have nothing to do with security.  Removing them from the profile does two things and two things only: Prevents users in that profile from creating records using that record type Prevents users in that profile from updating records to that record type It does nothing to prevent them from seeing / editing / deleting records of that record type
