We have accounts/contact that need to be separated or "archived" in SF so they dont display in the main search for user, but can still be available for viewing by a user if needed.

 

I am thinking we can setup a trigger to change record type upon a selected choice in a field on said record. That will get me my "Active" record types vs "Archived" record type. Now I am trying to figure out how to restrict the search results to provide the option to search "active or archived" records. Because record types are not considered objects in the Search options, I am not sure how to accomplish this without creating a duplicate.

 

Is there a way to modify or create addtional "More Options" in the Search options so I can include something like "Limit to Active records"?

    You might have to use Lookup Filters for this, however if you want to user to be able to select the Lookup field and then have the option to be able to flip back and forth from Search Active/Archived before returning the search results, it gets a bit trickier.
