How do you link an existing Opportunity to an account?

I need to link Opportunities to their "Parent" accounts, but when I selet the Opportunity link on the Parent account, I only see a "New Opportunity" button.  I have a few Parent accounts that do show the Opportunity link with existing records.  Thank you.

    We already have a custom Lookup (Accoun) field on the Opportunity called "Parent Company" and they are all manually linked to the Opportunity.

     

     

    This is a screen grab from a Parent Account that lists an existing Opportunity.  I don't know how this Opportunity got linked to the Parent Account.  The only button available is to create a new Opportunity which I do not need.
