why can i see Organization detail page but not Contact page for same record?

In a custom profile, both objects have view all permissisions, checked individual fields within the objects and they are all 'read'. Checked page layouts and viewed as the profile, all good there as well. Clicking on Contacts tab, the first record displays correctly (perhaps more a function of search results?). But when  a different record is selected, insufficient priveleges error occurs. Have checked profile, page layout assignments.

 

Another possible symptom is within the console tab. When logged in as administrator profile, the console opens correctly, but when next record is selected from list view (Contacts), the detail page will display correctly, but the related fields to the right default to only the organization details and not the student or staff or board member related fields as it should.

 

any help much appreciated.

    Would you be able to share out some screenshots?  That may help us figure out what's going on.
