I usually create a new household, then create a new contact under that household. Now, after I save both, the associated household changes -- it randomly assigns a different household to my contact.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening, or how to fix it?

Do you have any applications installed? Specifically, do you use Click and Pledge? This error used to be related to Click and Pledge, however, I believe that they fixed it since than.
