I would love (raising my hand) to connect with someone at Salesforce to see if adding page layouts and record types will eventually become "a thing" that we can control and configure in permission sets? I want to do profile consolidation but its hard to justify moving to the permission sets more exclusively (for some use cases) if page layouts and record types need to differ. For everything else, i am 100% on board!

Just tried it and that worked, @Justin Porter. Remarkable that it works even if I create an empty Custom Permission.
