Case Comments vs. Email - what's the deal in Lightning?

In most of my experience, we try to keep as much case communication as possible in Case Comments. It looks like in lightning, Case Comments seem to be de-emphasized in Lightning though. It seems really confusing for support reps to have to look for some communications in Comments and some in Emails anyway. It seems like the feed is a nice improvement, because it brings all communication into one place, but it looks pretty cluttered.

Who has some best practice recommendations for setting up the communication between support reps and clients in Lightning?
