Standard Highlights component not displaying properly in custom Lightning record page template

I created a very basic component for a client that wants left navigation on the page. The second column has two nested columns within it. When I drag the highlights panel into the top area, the button align left instead of right and cover the record name. All other components are displaying properly. I haven't overwritten any CSS anywhere because I want the standard look and feel. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! I posted a question with screenshots on the developer forum last week but haven't gotten any answers yet - please see attached link.
