Einstein global search is pretty cool. It often figures out what I want. But not ways. I sometimes have to let it know what to search for. And I can do that with mousing and typing but here's a 90 second video on how to do it only with keyboard.

(P.S. I remember a promise from early release notes of some years ago that this could be done from the main search entry but if that's true, I can't find it. Let me know how you do it!)

Client just noticed that something they had fixed in September is no longer working. We can't figure out why not and I've begun to suspect Winter '23 and that this is an "upgrade" that's very much not.

We edited the Account>Search Layouts>Default Layout (for example) to include a secondary field we would like to see immediately in the Einstein Search bar. In this case it was a formula field that concatenates account type and state so that search results would be easier/faster to parse. But none of the fields we have selected show up under the result anymore:

Did the search display get a not-well-documented change with Winter '23? Or perhaps this is a bug?

I swear to you that back in September under JEFFERSON COUNTY it would have said "Account Public School District Kentucky."

In fussing with the Default Search Layout now we are able to get a number field (see NCES ID) to show up, but text fields refuse to display.

Also, by the way, that screenshot is taken with NCES ID being in the third position of the search layout, the field I want to display is still in second position but is ignored.

All of the fields I have listed in the search layout show up to the right (along with the related lists) if you hover on one of the results. But you can see that users wouldn't immediately know which result is the one they want.

One last thing: This is not a problem in a lookup field. Those still work exactly as we expect:

@Chaturvedi Vedantam this is the same issue we've been discussing last week - I distinctly remember the second line on the search results was editable.  Would love to see the resolution for this one.

Hi All,

Einstein Search Answers, our newest Pilot feature, can help you answer questions like the one below by typing a natural language query in the search bar.

Hi All, Einstein Search Answers, our newest Pilot feature, can help you answer questions like the one below by typing a natural language query in the search bar.

Einstein Search Answers uses our machine learning models to extract the deeper meaning behind the query and searches for the most relevant passage across all Knowledge Articles in your org. The answer is then shown at the top of your search results, so no need to click into the article and scroll down until you find the passage that matches your question.

If you are interested in trying the feature out, please email us (tryeinsteinsearch@salesforce.com) and we will reach out to you directly with more details.

The same record showing in two places on search is causing confusion. If there’s no filter perhaps classic search or using a relationship object in place of contact or account might be a workaround.

Curious what those much smarter than me think and thank you in advance. This community never ceases to stop surprising me with their support and generosity.

    Hello,

This is a interesting one considering that a Person Account is both a Account and a Contact Record at the same time.

It sounds like you want to selectively hide the Contact Search Results which isn't possible as far as I'm aware.

Could you add some kind of indicator to the Contact Record eg. Is Person Account to help users with this ?

Alternatively this is a potential use case for Scoping Rules but these are only available if you are on a higher edition with specific type of Salesforce Support.

    Thanks Tom

Hello! Is there a way to turn off Einstein Search for a single user? Prior to Winter '22 this was easy, I just took them off the permission. They are still off the permission but it seems they now have Einstein search again. While it is a nice feature, the screen jumps when you click into the search bar which makes copy and pasting annoying. And I totally see her point. It adds an extra click instead of taking away extra clicks. Any help is appreciated!

Hi Kate, I turned off Einstein search (for all users) after Winter '22 went live by doing this: Setup > Einstein Search > settings > unchecked all of the boxes

Then, I still have it turned on for a select users with a permission set. I don't know how many users you have in your org, but that may be one approach to try.

Hi,

I saw in the Winter '22 release notes that Einstein Search will be turned on by default.  Does that mean that Einstein Search will replace Global Search, or does that mean that once Winter '22 hits production, customers can turn off the default Einstein Search?

The reason I ask is that our company has about 10 users that have been testing Einstein Search for the last 15 months.  The feedback has been great, but some users felt that Salesforce had to relearn their searches, but once it did Einstein Search worked much better.

Has Einstein Search functionality improved over the last year?

Thanks @Hanna Sandoval and @Leslie Brohm for the feedback

@Hanna Sandoval -  I want to provide more details for two things you called out -

    1.  Pining of Objects - please read this response from @Pragya Anand as it relates to this https://ideas.salesforce.com/s/idea/a0B8W00000GdbmRUAR/allow-pinning-of-objects-in-lightning-experience-global-search

Try out the beta feature and let us know what you think :)

    2. NLS - I am passing your feedback regarding "did you know" tips to my colleague @Mukund Ramachandran who is working closely on the NLS feature.

Here's also a link to provide more feedback on NLS if you want to pass it along to sales cloud team members https://trailhead.salesforce.com/trailblazer-community/feed/0D54S00000BuPYnSAN

Natural Language Search for Custom Objects: Admins we want to talk to you!

Hi All,

Natural Language Search currently supports a limited set of standard objects (account, opportunities, leads, contacts, cases). As an example users can type “my open opportunities this month” or “cases in progress last week” within the global search box. We have heard from you that extending this to your custom objects and fields would be valuable. We would like to talk with you to better understand

  1. If users could type anything in the search box, what would those be?
  2. What tasks are hard in salesforce that could be simplified using natural language?
  3. Share our current product concepts in order to gather feedback

Please DM me or like the post and I will reach out to you with more details.
