Guiding Principles and Personality Attributes
The Salesforce Kinetics System follows three guiding principles of motion and four personality attributes that helps foster trust with users by creating a consistent and unified experience with a UI.
Three Guiding Principles
The three guiding principles of motion are: functional, structural, and expressive.
Motion Is Functional
Motion helps users maintain flow, drawing attention to the screen changes, both small and large, and increasing the perceived speed of the task. For example, a dueling-picklist component—where users move options between two lists on-screen—draws attention to changes, changing the text box’s background color when a user moves an item to the other list.

Motion Is Structural
Motion helps users know where they are, orienting them with a consistent spatial model and creating Kinetics continuity across pages and components. For example, when a side panel animates from the right side of a screen and a user uses their cursor to navigate within the panel, interacting with content before exiting the panel.

Motion that responds with swiftness and grace and moves fluidly and effortlessly to get stuff done.
Sensible
Motion that flows modestly and predictably, helping users feel confident about their next steps. For instance, when a user moves their cursor over various icon choices on-screen and a circular shape highlights and enlarges them.

Motion that welcomes people of all visual abilities, pushing for efficiency to enhance the quality of the experience where needed, and humbly bowing out when users would prefer to skip motion altogether.
