This content doesn’t cover the Digital Insurance managed package. See Individual Insurance Policy Administration Foundations for details about similar features in the managed package.

Put Product Definitions into Action

In Product Administration for Digital Insurance, you learned how insurers model reusable insurance products that define configuration, rules, and pricing logic, all independent of any specific customer.

After products are configured, insurers put those definitions into action for real applicants. They use them to generate priced quotes, convert accepted offers into in-force policies, and govern every change that follows. Throughout these activities, the configured product logic performs reliably against live customer data, effective dates, and midterm adjustments.

This is policy administration, where operational discipline matters most.

It’s important that every lifecycle event—issuance, renewal, cancellation—remains aligned with the rules and pricing originally configured. Coverage intent, rating outcomes, and surcharges can’t drift simply because time passes or servicing teams change.

Salesforce Digital Insurance implements a single execution model across the entire lifecycle. You author product definitions, rules, and pricing logic once and execute them consistently. Decisions made during quoting carry forward into issuance and all downstream actions without reinterpretation or recalculation.

Digital Insurance also supports multi-root policies, enabling multiple products, such as auto and home, to be quoted together and issued as coordinated child policies under a single parent policy record. This supports bundled offerings while preserving structural clarity.

In this badge, you learn how that execution model governs the full policy lifecycle, from quote to renewal. Start with an overview of Product Administration for Digital Insurance feature in this unit.

Recognize Where Legacy Systems Break Down

Policy administration often fails because of fragmented systems and processes.

In many legacy environments:

  • Quoting, policy servicing, billing, and claims operate in separate systems.
  • Product logic is duplicated across platforms.
  • Pricing is recalculated downstream instead of carried forward.

Over time, divergence sets in. What was configured differs from what was quoted. What was quoted differs from what is in force. Servicing teams reconcile rather than execute.

The consequences are predictable.

  • Endorsements require manual recalculation.
  • Renewals price differently than original terms.
  • Refunds and adjustments demand cross-system reconciliation.
  • Compliance becomes reactive.

Digital Insurance addresses these problems at the architectural level. It provides a unified insurance data model that tracks quotes, policies, versions, participants, assets, and transactions in a single framework. Lifecycle services execute issuance, endorsement, renewal, and cancellation through shared APIs. Business Rules Engine evaluates eligibility, configuration, and pricing at run time. Omnistudio and Flow orchestrate user journeys without duplicating execution logic.

Lifecycle actions extend prior decisions instead of recalculating them independently.

Understand the Policy Lifecycle

Every policy progresses through a structured lifecycle. While details vary by line of business, the core stages remain consistent. Here’s what you do at each stage.

  • Quote: Configure a product for a specific customer, establish coverage structure, and calculate pricing using rules and rating logic.
  • Issue: Convert an accepted quote into an in-force policy.
  • Endorse: Apply changes during the policy term such as adding coverage, modifying assets, or adjusting participants. Each change creates a new policy version rather than overwriting prior data.
  • Renew: Extend coverage into a new policy term, reevaluating eligibility or pricing as required.
  • Cancel: End coverage as of a defined effective date and calculate final premium and financial adjustments.
  • Reinstate: Restore a cancelled policy within the same term while preserving the cancellation record and recalculating premium as needed.

Each stage builds on structured context created in the previous one. You never modify policies in place. Each lifecycle action creates new versions or transactions, preserving coverage history, pricing context, and auditability across the policy lifecycle.

How Policy Administration Fits into Digital Insurance

Salesforce Digital Insurance spans product modeling, quoting, policy administration, billing, and claims. Policy administration sits at the center of that lifecycle.

The core components and features of Digital Insurance.

Policy administration maintains in-force contracts over time. If policy administration diverges from product and quoting logic, every dependent process absorbs that inconsistency.

  • Billing depends on accurate term premiums and transaction records.
  • Claims depend on precise coverage structure and effective dates.
  • Service teams depend on clear lifecycle history.
  • Finance depends on traceable rating, surcharge, and tax calculations.

Digital Insurance prevents divergence through its shared foundation: a single data model, centralized lifecycle services, run-time rules evaluation, and configurable orchestration.

Execute Policy Actions Through Shared Services

Policy lifecycle actions are executed through centralized services.

Digital Insurance provides APIs and invocable actions that:

  • Convert accepted quotes into structured policies.
  • Execute lifecycle changes—endorsements, renewals, and cancellations—with versioning and proration.
  • Record lifecycle transactions.
  • Calculate and store taxes and surcharges.

Salesforce admins assemble these services into guided experiences. Execution logic remains centralized regardless of how it is surfaced—internal console, broker portal, or API integration.

The data model reinforces this discipline. Policies are structured hierarchies composed of root products, coverages, assets, and participants. Each lifecycle event produces new versions rather than overwriting prior data. This combination of service-based execution and versioned data enables scalable, auditable policy management across channels.

Design Guided Experiences Across Channels

In Digital Insurance, while execution is centralized, experiences are configurable.

Salesforce admins use Flow and Omniscripts to build guided journeys that collect inputs, call lifecycle services, and present results in sequence. These journeys orchestrate policy logic without embedding or duplicating it. If your admins use Experience Cloud to set up an experience site, the same journeys can reach brokers, partners, or customers directly.

Salesforce also provides prebuilt experiences that help your team work more efficiently. The Insurance Quote Configurator supports guided internal quoting aligned to configured product logic. Policy 360 offers consolidated views of policy hierarchy, versions, and lifecycle history. Both rely on the same underlying services so experience design can change freely while execution logic stays consistent.

Accelerate Policy Servicing with Agentforce

Policy servicing often starts with questions: What does this policy cover? When is the renewal date? Can the customer receive proof of insurance?

Agentforce provides AI assistance within the existing policy framework through the Insurance Service Assistance agent template. This agent uses the Salesforce Insurance data model to summarize policyholder portfolios, retrieve policy and quote information, and generate servicing documents without altering the underlying policy lifecycle.

The template includes topics such as Insurance Summarization and Policy Servicing. Its actions summarize a policyholder's portfolio; retrieve related records such as quotes, policies, and assets; and generate servicing documents such as proof of insurance.

For example, when a customer calls with a renewal question, the rep opens Agentforce directly from the account workspace to summarize the customer’s policies and review relevant coverage details before launching the renewal flow.

If the customer requests a change, the rep can retrieve assets, participants, and policy context before beginning the endorsement process.

Agentforce operates within configured rules and lifecycle services. It improves how people access structured data and guided actions, without changing how policies are executed.

What’s Next

In this unit, you learned how policy administration extends product design into run-time execution. Digital Insurance supports that execution through structured data, lifecycle services, and configurable user experiences.

In the next unit, you step into the quoting experience and learn how a modeled product becomes a structured offer—and how that quote establishes the foundation for policy lifecycle management.
