MuleSoft Catalyst Consultant Certification Overview
The MuleSoft Catalyst Consultant certification validates your ability to use MuleSoft Catalyst principles in delivery engagements to achieve business outcomes. You understand how to perform business outcome identification and engagement planning, and how to develop composable architecture solutions following the Catalyst methodology.
As a MuleSoft Catalyst Consultant, you deliver value at all project stages by following the Catalyst phases.
- Plan for success.
- Establish the foundation.
- Built to scale.
- Measure impact.
In this module, we highlight key updates you need to know for Winter ’26 to keep your certification current and your skills sharp.
Generate API Documentation in Anypoint Exchange
Streamline how your organization manages APIs by simplifying the documentation process. With Einstein, users can generate and standardize documentation for single-file REST APIs directly in Anypoint Exchange, MuleSoft’s catalog where APIs and assets are published and discovered.
Clear, up-to-date documents also strengthen the Catalyst Knowledge Hub, the methodology’s shared library of reusable assets and best practices. This improves API discoverability and shortens the time developers need to understand and adopt an API, which enables reuse.
A simplified documentation process aligns with the MuleSoft Catalyst Delivery methodology and our best practices for establishing a Center for Enablement (C4E), which promotes measurable outcomes, in the following ways.
- Adoption: Clear documentation helps reduce onboarding time and causes less friction for customers. Organized documentation structure helps users be more agile and supports our goal to design for composability.
- Reuse: Standardized documentation and documentation structure makes APIs easier to consume.
- Governance: Consistency in documentation and documentation structure reduces errors and increases predictability for users.
- Business outcomes: Faster onboarding and reuse leads to measurable ROI.
Manage Mule Gateway Policies in API Manager
Admins can now create, edit, reorder, and audit automated policies directly in API Manager, with automated policies taking priority over API-level policies. Enforce regulations, manage security, control traffic, and improve API adaptability in Mule Gateway.
New updates to API Manager enhance policy governance by enabling users with Organization Admin, Environment Admin, or with a role to Manage Policies able to create, edit, and delete Automated Policies directly on the Automated Policies configuration page.
This supports the MuleSoft Catalyst methodology in the following ways.
- Adoption and reuse: By making execution order visible and editable, users can reduce misconfiguration risk, and support predictable enforcement.
- Governance: Automated policies ensure consistent enforcement across environments, which makes for better governance.
Automated Policies
As automated policies have priority over API level policies, when adding an automated policy that is already applied as an API level policy using the selected runtime range, a conflict will be detected that needs to be solved before proceeding. When a conflict is detected, a popup list of conflicting APIs will be displayed. Conflict detection prevents duplicate or contradictory policies. It is possible to audit and get a list of all affected APIs by an automated policy.
Reordering Policies
In Mule Gateway, to execute certain policies before others, users can configure the order of execution of included and custom API level policies via API Manager. However, users cannot configure API level policies to execute before automated policies or configure the execution order of the Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) policy. Reordering policies ensure consistent execution order, which reduces errors and strengthens governance.
API Experience Hub Portal Discovery
With API Experience Hub, developers are able to catalog search and filters by categories and tags to quickly find the right API. The self-service developer portal helps portal admins filter and manage catalog entries in relation to how consumers search and filter in the portal UI.
Improved portal discoverability in API Experience Hub supports these key MuleSoft Catalyst outcomes.
- Adoption: Faster onboarding for developers, reducing time to first use.
- Reuse: Developers can easily find APIs they’ve used before with additional filters.
- Governance: When portal admins control visibility, we’re adding an extra layer of governance of improved security in a Center for Enablement (C4E)–led model.
Managing APIs
We’ve made it easier to manage APIs in the API Experience Hub portal. From the API management page, users can curate their portal, change visibility of a supported API version (Async API, HTTP, REST, or SOAP), and view and manage APIs. The portal administrator can change the visibility or remove APIs in the APIs in the portal tab. With more control over APIs, we’re making governance more achievable as this consistent reinforcement means more predictable outcomes, creating fewer errors.
Review Managing APIs for detailed instructions on the following actions.
- Opt in to increase the number of APIs in the portal.
- View APIs in Exchange.
- Add APIs from Exchange.
- Remove APIs from the portal.
- Make API versions visible.
Sum It Up
You’ve learned about recent feature updates that directly support MuleSoft Catalyst outcomes over the past year. These include updates around API documentation, policy governance, and API Experience Hub that promote MuleSoft Catalyst’s adoption, reuse, governance, and other business outcomes.
Now it’s time to test your understanding of these topics and complete the quiz to maintain your MuleSoft Catalyst Consultant certification.
