Perform Bulk Updates on Customer Assets

Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:

  • Make bulk amendments to the configuration of single and multiple groups of assets on an account.
  • Bulk upgrade or bulk downgrade assets on an account.
  • Bulk disconnect assets on an account.
  • Check bulk update job progress.

A Bulk Update Scenario

Remember Brooks Bacher? She’s a customer service representative at Infiwave. Brooks has established herself as a bit of a superstar when it comes to amending customer assets using Industries CPQ asset-based orders (ABO). And now she’s about to test her skills.

Brooks is sitting at her desk and is talking on her headset.

Sai from Acme calls. He wants to disconnect all the Business Video Services used by Acme and to switch the Blast! Pro Internet plans to Office Internet Solution plans.

This could take some time if Brooks has to locate and amend each asset one by one. Asset Viewer and bulk updates come to the rescue. She knows she can upgrade, downgrade, and amend large numbers of assets all at once, so she welcomes Sai’s request with open arms!

Benefits of Bulk ABO

Industries CPQ bulk ABO is designed for customer service agents, sales representatives, and self-service customers who need to move, add, disconnect, or change a large number of assets on business or consumer accounts.

Bulk ABO gives you guided processes for managing thousands of assets across business and service accounts. Behind the scenes, bulk ABO performs the relevant actions to amend, validate, and price quotes and orders. Customize the actions to suit your business requirements, including bulk updates, addition and deletion of assets, validation against prebuilt rules, and pricing.

Validating and pricing thousands of product changes can take a long time, so Industries CPQ performs these processes as asynchronous background tasks. Plus, job status notifications help you keep track of how updates are going, even when you’re working on other things.

The Bulk ABO Process

Now you’re an expert on the bulk ABO process, right? Well, maybe not an expert…just yet. To skill up, try an example in your salesforce org. Use the step-by-step instructions on creating bulk asset-based quotes and orders in the documentation links in Resources.
