Meet CRM Analytics for Slack

Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:

  • Add CRM Analytics to Slack and link it to your Salesforce account.
  • Explain and use the features of the CRM Analytics app for Slack.

Enrich Your Conversations with CRM Analytics

There’s now an easy way to get data from CRM Analytics or Lightning reports and dashboards while conversing on Slack: the CRM Analytics app for Slack.

To get started, head to Home in Slack, scroll to find the Apps section, and click Add apps.

The Slack home tab is selected, and the list of options is scrolled to the bottom to show the Add apps option.

Search for CRM Analytics and click the app to install it. If you can’t find the app, check with your admin to see if they’ve enabled Salesforce for Slack integrations and CRM Analytics.

The app has three tabs: Home, Messages, and About.

Home is where you start. Browse your recents and favorites, perform searches, and manage subscriptions and notifications. Receive your snapshots and subscriptions under the Messages tab, and get more information about the app on the About tab.

Before you do anything else, you must link to your Salesforce account. From the Home tab, select Connect to Salesforce and follow the instructions to provide CRM Analytics with permission to access your workspace.

Select the correct workspace from the dropdown list if the request isn’t for your intended workplace.

If you don't connect your workspace, you’re prompted to do so the first time you issue a CRM Analytics app slash command.

View a Snapshot in Slack

You’re in an unexpected chat with your manager, and they’re asking about your team’s performance. You want to access the team leaderboard to give them the information they want. With CRM Analytics for Slack, you can quickly get the details.

In the conversation, you type /analytics-search leaderboard. This command gives you a list of matching CRM Analytics items. Select the three dots next to the item you want, and select View Snapshot. If you need help determining the correct leaderboard, you can open them in Salesforce by selecting the dashboard name.

After a few moments, the app delivers the snapshot to your Messages tab.

Share Your Insight

You can also share the dashboard with your manager and include a message. To do this, in your search results list, from the three dots menu, select Share.

Share snapshot dialogue with options to select recipients, add a message, and include a preview image or PDF.

You can choose to include a snapshot or PDF of the dashboard with your view of the dashboard.

Items shared with individuals appear in their CRM Analytics for Slack Messages tab, while items shared with channels post to the channel. When someone receives a share, they can view the item’s details, view the snapshot, download it as a PDF, and open the item in Salesforce.

Dive Into the Details with a PDF

If you need more details, you can get a PDF of CRM Analytics dashboards and lenses and Lightning reports (which must have a chart) delivered to Slack. The PDF includes the snapshot image of the item and the data behind each item’s visualizations and KPIs.

When you find the item you want, click the three dots and select Download as PDF.

As with your snapshot, the app sends the PDF to your Messages tab. On the post’s thread, you can click to view the PDF in Slack and download it.

Send Regular Updates for You and Your Colleagues

Every Friday, you meet with your team to review sales performance. Wouldn’t it be great if everyone had the latest analytics for the meeting? Now, they can with subscriptions.

When you find the item you want, click the three dots and select Subscribe.

You can schedule a point-in-time snapshot of the sales performance dashboard for Friday morning and deliver it to your team's Slack channel. You can also schedule different views of the same dashboard for different Slack users or channels.

Create subscriptions dialog with options to select days and times it’s sent, details of recipients, and type of snapshots to include.

Recipients of the subscription now see the dashboard to prepare for the meeting.

Edit the subscription schedule or distribution from the Home tab. You can also import your existing CRM analytics threshold-based notifications and subscriptions to Lightning reports and dashboards and send them using Slack.

Get a Message Across

With the app, you can also push from Salesforce to share analytics with colleagues across your Slack workspaces and channels. Recipients can view asset details, share, subscribe, view a real-time snapshot, and open the asset in Salesforce.

Click the Post to Slack icon on a Lightning dashboard or CRM Analytics dashboard or lens.
