We use EAC and Outlook.  Emails are syncing.  Most meetings are syncing, but we are experiencing sporadic sync failures and delays, not isolated to a specific user.

Our meetings always are created in Outlook (365) and always include at least 2 SFDC users from the sales team (the organizer + 1) and at least 1 SFDC contact.  Here are the sporadic failures:

  • The meeting does not sync to the Salesforce record for more than 1 hour.
  • The meeting never syncs to Salesforce.
  • The meeting shows on the Salesforce record as an email, not an event.

From what I have gathered so far, it is impacting 5 different users for about 10% of the meetings they create.  Has anyone experienced this and have a fix?

I have gone through my EAC config and settings and verified everything with Salesforce Help.  none of the users are new, and no settings have been changed on our Salesforce side.  It has been happening since August, so not related to the last Salesforce release.

Is it possible to support multi-factor authentication for the service account when setting up Lightning Sync?  Like a certificate if using the true service account option? Or if using OAuth with O365 if it's behind an IdP that is configured to require multi-factor (like Okta)?  I think the latter is most likely but wanted to see if anyone has run into this. @Damien Joly

Yes, it is possible to support multi-factor authentication (MFA) for a service account when setting up Lightning Sync, depending on the authentication method and configurations you choose. Here are some scenarios:

Certificate-Based Authentication: If you're using a true service account with certificate-based authentication, it can enhance security. Certificate-based authentication typically involves the use of a digital certificate to authenticate the service account. If your certificate provider and configuration support MFA, then MFA can be enabled for the certificate-based authentication process.

OAuth with Office 365: When using OAuth for integration with Office 365, it often involves setting up an Identity Provider (IdP) like Okta. In this case, the MFA requirements are typically enforced by the IdP. If your IdP (e.g., Okta) is configured to require MFA, then any authentication requests made by the service account, including those for Lightning Sync, will also be subject to MFA.

In both scenarios, it's essential to ensure that your service account configuration aligns with your security and MFA policies. Additionally, consider the specific requirements and capabilities of the applications and services you're integrating with to determine how MFA is enforced.

Keep in mind that the exact configuration and steps may vary based on the specific technologies and platforms you're using, so it's always a good practice to consult the documentation provided by your Identity Provider and Salesforce Lightning Sync to ensure proper setup and adherence to security requirements.

Re: Lightning Sync with Outlook (Office 365) *or* G Suite calendars... is there any way to sync data from fields in Salesforce other than the event name and location? We have custom fields, including contact name and internal attendees, and we want some of this data to sync.

Can this be configured in any way?

Hi @Salvador Estorch If you are trying to download the plugin to just your own email client (lets say outlook 2013, 2016) , simply go to manage add ins and install the salesforce addin. Here is step by step trailhead link. Only if you want deploy it to users so that it is available to everyone in your org, you can login with your exchange credentials and add the plug in so that everyone can see the outlook side panel. Ofcourse users would need to authenticate by logging into salesforce via the sidepanel. In order to sync, we recommend you to use Einstein activity capture which is far easier to setup then lightning sync. Please keep in mind that lightning sync is not available to new customers starting winter 21. Here is the article. Here is a video on Einstein activity capture. Please do watch it.

I would like to know if when i modify the subject of an event on Salesforce, the update is well syncronized and visible on the event on outlook!

The configuration is set up on bidirectional sync.

Thanks  :)

Hi! I was curious based on the current state Lightning Sync (which is sunset for new customers) or the newly favored Einstein Activity Capture, the current state of how Office 365 Outlook handles duplicate management in Events and Contacts? I remember from the days from Salesforce for Outlook that letting Outlook win a conflict ended up creating duplicate data. Is letting Exchange win a conflict any better? #Outlook  #Einstein Activity Capture #Lightning Sync

Hi Michael, from my experience there isn't a strong duplicate management capability built within Einstein Activity Capture, so there does seem to be a theme where admins will end up with some duplicate contacts for reasons unknown. What can help with this is using some of the advanced sync features to specify which contacts should and should not be synced. There's a pretty indepth thread here that may be helpful on this topic.

It won't let me link to it directly, but if you go to the Outlook Integration chatter group and search the feed for Duplicate. There's a post by Josh Jacobson with a lot of comments and discussion on this topic specifically

Hi all,

I'm trying to sync Salesforce org and Outlook; I need to sync only events (not mail or contacts).

But when I set the sync I cant disable mail and contact, and I cant add users with inbox permission set assigned.

How is possible?

There is a way to sync the calendar (not mail and contact)of users

"Unfortunately" we are not using Inbox so I can check this on my own and I maybe miss something.

Just for my understanding, why or/and how do you want to track emails or send them later if you don't want to sync mails?

Again, I have no experience with Inbox(!), but this currently doesn't fit together for me.

From what I understood from the documentation you simply have to remove the Inbox-permission from the user profile and assign him/her the pre-configured permission set "Standard Einstein Activity Capture". After that you should be able to add this user to your Event-Sync-Only EAC configuration.

Ciao a tutti,

ho qualche problema con la registrazione delle mail in salesforce.

Ho notato che SF logga alcune mail anche se non clicco LOG EMAIL sul pannello di Outlook.

Sto usando Inbox (senza attivare Einstei Activity Capture) e Lightning Sync.

Qualcuno ha qualche suggerimento?

Grazie

Hi All, I feel like this might not be possible but I am wondering if anyone knows of a way to make fields required in the side panel we get with Lightning Sync and Salesforce Inbox for outlook. We have one field visible when logging calendar events, Event Type, in the side panel but I cannot seem to make it a requirement.
