Salesforce - Marketo Integration using API Only Integration profile

Hi All, 

 

Has anyone done integrating Marketo with Salesforce using the API Only Integration user profile?  

We have a lot of our integrations using this special integration user profile/license and we make a permission set which requires all the objects/fields/system permissions and assign to this integration user.  I am wondering if anyone has tried this integration user for Marketo.

    As per the Marketo documentation, whatever objects/fields/system permissions required, we can achieve by creating a permission set and assign that to the integration user.  So, access issue won't be a problem I suppose. I am wondering if anyone knows why Marketo insists the integration user needs to have a FULL Salesforce license? Is there any specific reason behind it?
