Configure Discovery Framework to Create Compliant Forms

Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:

  • Define OmniStudio and OmniScript.
  • Enable Discovery Framework.
  • Configure Question Creation Settings.
  • Configure Import and Export Settings.

About This Module

In this module, we assume you’re a Salesforce admin who’s authorized to set up Discovery Framework. If you’re not an admin, that’s OK. Read along to learn how your admin would take the steps in a production org. Don’t try to follow these steps in your Trailhead Playground. The Discovery Framework feature isn’t available in the Trailhead Playground. Alternatively, you can sign up for an FSC trial org.

Existing Forms and Questionnaires at Cumulus

Matt’s worried about the state of existing forms and questionnaires at Cumulus Bank, many of which are lengthy and complex. With so many different documents and assessment questions, keeping track of form and question versions, not to mention customer responses have become a nightmare for the team.

He knows that unless Cumulus ensures questions are compliant and customer information traceable, the company risks heavy penalties and fines. This poses a sizable hazard to the business. Matt is ready to use Discovery Framework to revamp the forms. But where to start?

Cumulus receives a multitude of requests from customers who want to open new accounts. The existing account-opening form includes numerous assessment questions, and Matt is concerned that some of the questions may be noncompliant. Moreover, it's time-consuming to manage all the different question versions and keep the form up to date. So he decides to rebuild the form using OmniStudio and OmniScript, important tools in Discovery Framework.

The Role of OmniStudio and OmniScript

OmniStudio provides a suite of services, components, and data model objects that combine to create Industry Cloud applications. Use OmniStudio to build guided experiences, like forms and workflows, based on data from your Salesforce org and external sources.

An OmniScript is an omnichannel customer engagement and a business tool that allows you to craft dynamic customer interactions without code and deploy the interactions to multiple channels and devices. For example, create a guided questionnaire to capture customer details in a standardized, traceable way.

To configure the Discovery Framework, Question Creation, and Import or Export settings, you need permissions to the Customize Application setting. For information on setting permissions, see Resources.

Note

Discovery Framework is compatible with the standard objects model of OmniStudio and not the custom objects model.

Discovery Framework Setting

Matt gets to work. First, he enables the Discovery Framework setting in the org. This way, he can use all the capabilities to create a compliant account-opening form.

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Discovery Framework, and then select General Settings.
  2. Turn on Discovery Framework.Enabling Discovery Framework, Enhanced Questions, and Import or Export Settings.

Question-Creation Settings

Matt starts by configuring the question-creation experience. He can use the Enhanced Questions setting to specify whether to create question records and question-version records simultaneously or at different times.

IF you want to create questions and question versions… THEN ensure the Enhanced Question setting is…

At the same time

Enabled/On (Default)

At different times

Disabled/Off

To enable or disable enhanced questions:

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Discovery Framework, and then select General Settings.
  2. Turn Enhanced Questions on or off.

For more information, see Resources.

Import or Export Settings

You can create questions in one org and import or export those questions to another org if needed. To allow this:

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Discovery Framework, and then select General Settings.
  2. Turn on Import or Export.

Matt can now import or export assessment questions, assessment question sets, assessment question versions, and OmniScripts. For more information, go to Resources.

Matt has now successfully set up Discovery Framework for his org. In the next unit, follow Matt as he designs and deploys questionnaires and forms with Discovery Framework. Gear up!
