We are implementing Levels and I had to adjust the formula field that is setting Levels. NPSP documentation states to not manually edit Levels or Previous Level, which makes sense. I am wondering if anyone has mass 'reset' / cleared out Previous Level values, without negative effects.

    Thank you, @Jeffrey Chung

Recalculating the batch did not clear out the Previous Levels. Which I think makes sense. I also tried uploading Null values into Previous  Level in a sandbox and that didn't do it either. My next attempt will be unselecting Previous Levels on each Level definition record since it isn't required. Then clear out the values with Null on contacts and see if that sticks. Then re-configure Previous Level. I will keep you all posted on how that goes.

Hi everyone!

After months of trying to figure out the mysterious login error for Power of Us hub, I'm finally in! I am a Salesforce admin for a nonprofit that teaches tech skills to underserved communities for free, as well as helps to place them in tech jobs afterwards with various corporate partners. We just launched our individual giving program and I set up various levels based on yearly gifts to date. I have also set up the corresponding engagement plans. There's just one problem:

Our development team wants gifts to be cumulative, e.g. a "Supporter" level gets some swag, a site visit, and a mention in the graduation book, but an "Ambassador" level supporter gets all of that, plus like a helicopter ride and a free puppy or whatever.

If a person hits Supporter level, the associated engagement plan adds the corresponding tasks (send swag, set up site visit date, put on list to mention them in grad book), but then if they reach the next level, these tasks will be duplicated since higher levels incorporate lower level awards. I'm hoping this makes sense...

The reason we need cumulative awards is because some of our donors are, well, well-heeled and will go donate 5k at the end of the year, which propels them to a higher level immediately. They would miss out on the lower tier awards if they went from zero to Ambassador. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks so much for reading!

If you want to call this a ‘problem’ then that’s a nice problem to have. 😃

On a serious note, someone making a large donation the very first time around is not that rare. But since you have physical, cumulative gifts attached to those and do not want to duplicate those, it’s understandable that the engagement plan templates will likely not work without customization.

I imagine it’s possible by keeping track of the earned gifts per contact or household, and then having another independent scan during the actual gift delivery to only pick one of each kind - if that’s what you desire. This will need additional customization but it’s possible to do.

apologies if it’s not clear in ‘words’. Happy to discuss/clarify offline.

Hi All,

I was able to set "levels" on To account and everything went great. but as soon as I tried to set the "levels" for Contact on I don't have any values in the field "Level Field" (only "None"). See also Print Screen attached.

I don't know if it's relative to the issue but I also noticed that on Account Object, I do have Level field but on Contact Object I don't.

Thank you all in advance,

Tomer

Hi there, I am using the multi level navigation and the topics shown below in the navigation have subtopics - but the navigation doesn't allow you to get to those levels unless you click into the topic. There should be an arrow that expands the list within the navigation, any thoughts on what I am missing?

Thanks!

Hi @suneel kumar and welcome! NPSP Levels give you a way to track a constituent's level of commitment and engagement based on criteria such as total gifts or number of hours volunteered. These two fields capture the contact's current level and previous level, if they had one.

Here are some great resources as you're @Nonprofit Get Started Hub :

I am trying to setup Levels for "Major Donors" and "Lapsed Major Donors". The criteria for both are the same: Minimum Amount >= 5,000 and Maximum Amount < 10,000

The "Major Donors" level uses the source field "Total Gifts Last 365 Days". That worked....level was created. I'm now trying to build the level for "Lapsed Major Donors" using a different source field. I'm using a field called "Lapsed Donor Largest Gift". I am getting the error below. Anyone know why I can't have Levels with the same ranges when they are pointing to 2 completely different source fields?

Are you pointing both at the same TARGET field? in order to have two sets of levels running concurrently, the Source Field, Level Field, and Previous Level fields all have to be different. If you need to see that information together in one field, you have to get a little fancy with formula fields after you set up the levels.

I want to set up Levels for my nonprofit, but I want it to be calculated from the Opportunity (rather than Contact/Account).

Example: Rather than assigning a /contact/ a level (Bronze if total giving equals $150 - which could be 3x $50 OR 1x $150 gifts), I want to assign it to the /opportunity/ (Opportunity amount => $150 = bronze level).

I've watched the video & read the NPSP documentation on setting up Levels - which says you CAN use levels on objects other than just the Contact or Account object, but it doesn't say HOW. I added a custom look-up field to the Opportunity object relating it to the Level object. But when I try to create a new level, the drop-down "Target Object" only gives me two choices: Contact or Account.

So how do I go about adding Opportunity as a target object option when creating levels?

You don’t really need levels for that. You just set up a formula feel that calculates the value of a field based on the opportunity him out. It would be a nested if statement.

For example: Donor Level "Lapsed Donor"

(1) Total Gifts > $0

(2) Total Last Year's Gifts = $0

I'm trying to create Volunteer levels based on how many hours a contact volunteers per year. So far I am only able to create the level based on the contact's "total volunteer hours", but I would like to add the condition "within the last 365 days".

Is this possible?

Hello! My organization has an annual giving society (level) for people to donate $1,000 per year at a monthly rate (~$89 per month). I know we're able to track donations through stages on the opportunity object but most of the people in this society give monthly. Would you recommend we just add these people to a Giving Society campaign as a campaign members and track their statuses of whether they hit this giving level by campaign member response status or should we try to track the recurring gifts via opportunities and move the contacts through the opportunity stages?

@Terry Cole  or @Akash Mishra  suggestions work.

Pending details of your instance, I'd use recurring donations to track the opportunities, customizable rollups to track total giving in the year at the household or contact level, and levels on the household or contact that indicate the giving society level.
