Hi, if you are using Tableau Desktop Free: 

a. Create a directory (as an example in your Desktop) 

b. Then open Tableau Desktop, go to File Menu and change Repository Location:

If you are using Tableau Public, you would need to change a config key in the Windows registry: 

a. Start Button, Registry Editor. 

b. You will need to go to under the Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Tableau to your current Tableau Public Release

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Tableau\Tableau Public 2026.2\Directories

c. Select the Directory Branch, and right clic and select new String Value:

d. Give it a name of Repository:

f. Click on Ok and open Tableau Public Desktop. You will notice the folder will be filled with the default repository directories:

Hi, the best idea could be to use the Tableau Pulse object in a Tableau Workbook Dashboard. 

I exactly don't remember if it was 2025.3 or 2026.1 when Tableau introduced the capability of Dashboard filter controls (not Filter Actions) can affect Pulse Metrics. 

Thus: 

a. Create a workbook in Tableau Cloud (Explore -> New Workbook) 

b. Connect to the published datasource your metrics use. 

c. Create a simple sheet and drag filters to the filter shelf. Show filters. 

d. Create a Dashboard, and drag your sheet. 

e. Drag Tableau Pulse objects to bring your metrics into the Dashboard.  Don't forget to  toggle on "Respond to filter selection"  

f. Publish your workbook. Your metrics will respond to the filter selections.

Unfortunatelly, the only way to set key pair credentials for Snowflake is using Tableau Desktop and publishing the datasource to Tableau Cloud. 

Thus, you have two options: 

a. You may preserve the ownership of the user who publishes the datasource/workbook and give the refresh extract permission to other users. (yeah there is a recently new permission for this) 

b. The new owner, using Tableau Desktop, may need to connect to the published datasource, create a local copy, and publish again the datasource using the key pair stored under their user.

1. Filter Actions (Use Sheets as Filters)

Instead of using generic quick filters, set up sheet-to-sheet filter actions. When a user clicks on a data point in one chart, it dynamically filters other related views.

• Why it works: It allows users to naturally drill down into the data through interactive exploration rather than just clicking static menu options.

2. Sheet Swapping (using Parameters & Layout Containers)

If you have multiple views (e.g., Trend vs. Detail) but limited space, you can use a parameter to let users swap entire sheets dynamically within a container.

3. URL Actions (Navigate Beyond Tableau)

This is expected behavior in Salesforce Data Cloud.

Data Kits don’t reliably overwrite existing components, so redeployments may show "success" but not apply changes.

Try:

• Deleting or versioning the existing component
• Deploying with a new name
• Ensuring all dependencies are included

They work best for initial deploys, not updates 👍
