During Lead conversion, Is Lead's currency is by default mapped into Converted Opportunity's Currency?

Hi All,

I have a Salesforce org with Multi currency feature enabled. I have facing an issue on Lead conversion process as during Lead conversion in one scenario (Existing Opportunity choose) Lead currency is mapped into Opportunity Currency. So it's literally override the existing Opportunity currency (which selected during lead conversion process) and it's cause to lot of issues.

So May I know, Is this standard behavior in Salesforce, As When a Lead converted into existing Opportunity, Lead's Currency is updated into Mapped Existing Opportunity Currency by default from Salesforce end?

Example :

Lead: X

Lead Currency: USD

Existing Opportunity: OPP-0000001

Opportunity Currency: INR

Amount: 2,00,000

After Lead converted by choosing the existing Opportunity as "OPP-0000001":

Existing Opportunity: OPP-0000001

Opportunity Currency: USD

Amount: 2,00,000

Note: I have confirmed, Currently no mapping in "Map Lead Fields" settings in Lead object and no code level (Apex logic) mapping for this in our org.

@Mohanraj S https://trailblazers.salesforce.com/profileView?u=0053A00000COL36QAH  This is a standard behavior.. unless.. the existing Opportunity already has a product linked to it and Opportunity currency is different.    Otherwise.. when you convert a Lead to an existing Opportunity (with no product associated).. then Lead Currency will override Opportunity currency. hence, help check your Opportunity situation.    also refer below link for details    https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=000382564&type=1

Confirmed with the official Salesforce Help article: this is standard Salesforce behavior, not a bug, not caused by your "Map Lead Fields" settings or any Apex logic.    Per the article: "When Lead is converted into an existing Opportunity, the currency field on the Opportunity record gets updated with Lead currency."    This happens at the platform level during lead conversion regardless of custom field mapping.    Official reference:  https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=000382564&type=1     The one exception: if the existing Opportunity already has Products/OpportunityLineItems attached, the currency field becomes locked. In that case, instead of silently overriding it, Salesforce throws "There was an error converting the lead" if the Lead's currency differs from the Opportunity's currency. Since your Opportunity (OPP-0000001) has just an Amount and no line items, the override happens silently instead of erroring out, that's exactly why INR quietly became USD instead of getting blocked.    Practical fix for your situation:    1. Before converting, manually align the Lead's currency to match the target Opportunity's currency, then convert. This avoids the override entirely.    2. If this happens often enough that manual correction isn't scalable, add a Screen Flow step in your Lead conversion process that checks Lead.CurrencyIsoCode against the target Opportunity's CurrencyIsoCode and blocks/warns before conversion if they mismatch.    3. As a safety net, add a Record-Triggered Flow on Opportunity (Before Save, on Update) that reverts CurrencyIsoCode back to its prior value if it changed as part of a conversion when Amount/other currency-dependent fields weren't intentionally being modified. Use this carefully since it could conflict with legitimate currency changes made elsewhere.    Given no native setting exists to disable this override (confirmed, no such toggle exists in Map Lead Fields), a pre-conversion currency check via Flow is the cleanest fix without needing Apex.
