Circling back to add a few ideas to this thread. It is important to come up with a plan to engage executives. Training is important so they understand the mechanics of how to use Chatter, but even after training, we often hear that they know how to use the tool but just don't know what to say or do. Here are some ideas that may help:
- As part of your plan, set attainable 30-60-90 day goals for your executives and be sure these are communicated. You can even create a bit of friendly competition by gamifying these and/or creating leaderboards.
- Set daily/weekly goals for certain activities and make these meaningful to your goals for Chatter. For example: *Set aside at least 10 minutes per day for Chatter, *Like at least 5-10 posts/comments per week, *Reply to at least 2 comments per week, *Post at least 1 time per week, *Follow at least 5 new employees per week, etc
- Email curated content to executives with suggestions for posts that they may want to comment on or like
- Draft suggested posts, tailored to each executive and email them weekly
- Provide a list of ideas for posting (congratulating employees on service anniversaries, project milestones, product launches, meeting goals, etc).
Once you have trained your executives on how to use Chatter, and then guided them through best practice behaviors with your 30-60-90 day plan, they will feel comfortable using Chatter see the impact that their engagement can have with employees. You can gradually remove the 'training wheels' and you should begin to see them develop their own ideas for how best to use Chatter to achieve the goals that they have. Hope these ideas help!
