It is the baseline level of data security for your records. OWD specifies the absolute strictest level of access that the most restricted user has to records they do not own.

Think of Salesforce security as a house: OWD is the front door lock. You start by locking it down, and then you use other tools (like Role Hierarchies, Sharing Rules, and Manual Sharing) to open up windows and inner doors for specific people. You can never use other sharing tools to restrict access more than what the OWD specifies.

My org has several custom objects, but only some are displaying when I attempt to edit the OWD settings in the "Organization-Wide Sharing Defaults Edit" view.

What determines which custom objects are able to have their OWD settings edited, and which don't?

Hello, I have a question regarding visibility and access.  In an organization where contacts are private, I created a few roles and profiles. To ensure that, for example, seniors can see the contacts created by juniors who are below them but juniors can't see any of the seniors' contacts. Except that the juniors are telling me that they always manage to see the contacts of their seniors. I checked everything, the OWD is private and no sharing rules have been created to give additional access to the juniors.

Does anyone have an idea about this problem and how to solve it please?

Thanks in advance.

I have a question on the most optimal Security configuration for this scenario:

If the requirement is to expose summary data for ALL accounts, but keep everything else restricted/private.

For example, all users should have access to "name" and "who to contact" for all Accounts but nothing else like notes/activities, other sensitive attributes and related items.

How should I set up the OWD for the account object to satisfy the requirement?

If possible, please explain the rationale and Pros/Cons of your suggestion(s).

Thx

Users not able to sort campaign members or edit. I enabled them as account team members and marketing users but it still doesn't work. We have OWD access as private for contacts/leads but shouldn't those settings be trumped by being an account team member/and being a marketing member?

Is the owner of the Campaign or Campaign members impacting access? Campaigns, typically are Private, and Members pick up the sharing from the Campaign itself (I believe). Also, when you say "Can't sort", where are you accessing the list? The related list isn't sortable, but in the Manage screen, they are.
