Fundraising

This is a public group for questions and conversation around fundraising.

Hi Experts,

In NPC Fundraising, I need a “Total Gift This FY” rollup. However, the OOTB DPE Rollup calculates the summary based on the calendar year instead of the fiscal year.

Has anyone implemented an FY-based rollup using the standard DPE Rollup? Any guidance would be very helpful.

I want to insist on Claude Code to help you out with your DPEs. DPE are really hard to do / learn, but Claude Code (using the UI, not code or terminal) is really handy for that. For example, the FY switch for giving level and other fields.

I believe the soft credit concept is to be able to include someone who helped with a donation but isn't the person who actually made the donation?

Also, we have scenarios where a donor makes a gift to my nonprofit. It is matched by their employer but the donation comes through a third party service such as Benevity. I'm trying to figure out the best way to reflect that...should Benevity be included in SF to reflect them as the payee? And then somehow connect the company that the donor works for who actually made the match? I'm having some trouble figuring out how to reflect all of this in the Donation record.

We currently create our donor research profiles in Word and attach them as Files to Account records. The profile contains Contact info (name, email, phone, mailing address), some giving history, and data from external sources. We would like to transition this to Salesforce. My preliminary idea is a custom object with fields for data that doesn't already live somewhere else, then some sort of mail merge tool (we have Apsona) that merges it all together in one document. Has anyone built anything like this,or used a third party tool they recommend?

We are on NPSP with no immediate plans to move to NPC.

A custom object sounds like a solid approach, especially if you want the research data to stay structured and reportable in NPSP. You could relate it to the Account/Contact and use Apsona to generate the final profile document, while keeping the source data searchable and easier to maintain in Salesforce.

Hi Experts,

  • We have a requirement to show the remaining balance amount on a Gift Commitment when the Schedule Type is set as Recurring.
  • The remaining balance should be calculated using:

Total Gift Transaction Amount - Total Paid Gift Transaction Amount

  • The issue is that for recurring Gift Commitments, we cannot access all upcoming Gift Transaction records because they are only displayed in the Lightning component.

Could anyone please confirm whether it is possible to retrieve or calculate the remaining balance amount in this scenario?

That is a complex question. The remaining balance for recurring gifts is not always readily visible in the standard reports. It is possible that a custom formula field is required. A consultant can assist you in establishing that correctly.

How to delete NPSP Data Import records before the final Import?

Ran NPSP Data Import and found some blank data was imported. The next day, deleted the records and checked from "All" that the records were deleted. Ran NPSP Data Import ensure the correct number of records were import. When trying to take the next step of Data Import, no records were found.

Ran NPSP Data Import records and all the records were found but not available for Importing.

Can all the 2 days of records be completely deleted and start a new import?

This was the solution that worked for me.  I had two thousand records needed to delete after I discovered a mistake in the data I was going to import.  I created a report on the NPSP Date Import object to include the records I wanted to delete.  Make sure you include the Salesforce Record ID, the Import ID will not work.  With Salesforce Record ID  in hand I used Dataloader to delete the import records,

Interesting shift in how associations are approaching fundraising in Salesforce https://bit.ly/45j2Ozh.

Been reading about how association fundraising is changing now that donor expectations look a lot more like consumer expectations: personalized, timely, tied to actual impact instead of generic asks. The part that stood out most: AI can help a ton with things like flagging likely donors or catching lapsed ones early, but only if the underlying data is actually clean and connected. Garbage in, garbage out still applies.

Also liked the point about donation flows living inside the member experience instead of on a separate donation page. Every extra step (re-entering info, leaving the portal) seems to quietly kill conversions.

Sharing in case it's useful for anyone doing membership or nonprofit work on Salesforce: https://bit.ly/45j2Ozh

Hi colleagues,   I am building a Mail Merge solution that creates a "Donor Profile" one page PDF.  So far, I'm pulling in data from recent opportunities, open opportunities, tasks/activities, contacts/affiliations, and fields from the Account (org/household).  I'm wondering, what's most important to you and your teammates to surface in a document like this? LMK!

Hi Experts,

I am currently exploring the Actionable Segmentation features in NPC and have a few questions.

1. My understanding is that when a DPE runs, it updates the DPE dataset with newly created or modified records.

  • However, the Actionable List created from an  Actionable Definition that uses the DPE dataset as its source is not automatically refreshed.
  • If new records meet the Actionable List filter criteria, they are not automatically added to the list, and records that no longer meet the criteria are not automatically removed.

Could anyone please confirm whether my understanding is correct?

2. To add new members to the Actionable List, we need to manually use the

"Add More Members" button. Could you please confirm whether my understanding is correct? If there is a way to automatically add members to the Actionable List when the DPE runs, please guide me on how to configure it.

3. During my hands-on testing, I followed all the steps in the documentation. When I preview the DPE output, I can see the data in the writeback object.

  • However, when I try to create an Actionable List using the Actionable Segmentation definition, it shows that no data is available. Could anyone please help me understand if I have missed any configuration or setup steps?

@Manjula Rajaram (or anyone else who has used Actionable Lists), have you had success setting up Actionable Lists? I did the Trailhead module and found it to be buggy (a button did nothing when clicked while trying to add more records to a list). It seems like it shouldn't still have bugs if it was released over a year ago, and apparently is used across products. If the bug that I found is the only one, it might acceptable to implement, however.

Hi Experts,

I am trying to create a Gift Transaction and allocate my gift to 12 Gift Designation records using the New Gift Entry button. However, when I try to enter the gift, the form only allows me to add 3 rows.

Please find the attached screenshot for reference.

Unable to Add More Than 3 Gift Designations in Single Gift Entry

I am not sure if this is a limitation in the Single Gift Entry Form

I was also unable to find any information about this in the help articles.

Can anyone please help me get better clarity on this?

This will be fixed for the Gift Entry Grid (not the flow version) in Spring ‘26 .
