Best Practices - Deployment Management

This forum is intended to share best practices, network, ask questions about all things related to how customers are managing their own deployments. What tools are you using? How often do you release? What processes are you using? Tell us what you're doing at your company!

Hello to all -

How can I remove the 'Shortcut' component from our Home Page Layout? Looks like if "Recent Items" is on the page layout, it appears but if I remove "Recent Items", it disappears. Thanks

To remove "Unresolved Items" from the Home Page, you have to disable Email to Salesforce

Trying to deploy and approval process from a winter'16 sandbox to another winter'16 sandbox

Have tried both via change set and via ANT and in both cases is fails with error

"This Unique Name already exists or has been previously used. Please choose a different name."

I have a case with SFDC already but no resolution yet. Anyone run into this?

We suspect this may be caused by the deploy process not recognizing that a field update of the same name already exists and is trying to create it which fails.

Looking for advise/best practices about how other customers handle international countries with strict data privacy laws. For example, we would like to on-board users in our Germany office but heard they have the strongest data privacy policies in the EU specially around contact information (name, phone#, address, etc.)

How do you handle managing Germany and other country contact / account information to adhere to data privacy concerns in your Salesforce platform? Thanks

I posted this last year as well to @Salesforce Flow Automation at https://success.salesforce.com/0D53000001W9Q3B

We are still looking to ANT deploy flows (including processes now) and this article on stack exchange mentions a setting FlowMdOverwriteEnabled

https://salesforce.stackexchange.com/questions/81657/deployment-issues-with-process-builder-flows/90130#90130

Salesforce support just told me

"I have checked regarding the feature 'FlowMdOverwriteEnabled ', however there is no such feature in Salesforce which is available as of now."

Anyone know otherwise?

Hi everyone! We are currently doing a massive revamp of our deployment strategies in our org. We currently have one Full sandbox, and a cluster of Dev Pro and Dev sandboxes. We all (all admins/devs - there are a decent # of us!) have the ability to configure in the production org (the horror!!! :scream:).

What we're trying to get happening is:

- Full sandbox = the UAT sandbox for any project related build - everything that needs testing with data, and/or end users to test and give feedback on needs to go here.

- 1 Dev Pro "Release" sandbox = refreshed monthly, for ALL config to be either built in or deployed to (from our other dev pro and dev sandboxes), prior to deploy so we can ensure 2 people are not making different changes to the same field/object/etc and we can run all test classes.

- Deploy at the end of each month from this "Release" sandbox, anything that was not a critical fix or a project scheduled for deploy at another point in the month

- Critical fixes need to be made in the "Release" sandbox ALWAYS before they can be made in our live environment - these can be deployed at any day in the month, as soon as they have passed tests

- Use our other Dev Pro and Dev sandboxes as playgrounds, so we can assign them to longer-term projects that won't be able to go out within our monthly deployment cycle, or areas for our less experienced admins to try things out and learn

- Policy of not letting these other Dev Pro and Dev sandboxes go more than about 2 months without refresh - even if we're not ready to deploy we would shuffle our config around so that we can push it back into that sandbox (mostly using change sets, but we have some REAL struggles with change sets!!!) and continue building in an environment that hasn't decayed too far.

We are open to ANY ideas or suggestions based on what we're looking at above! This is just our initial sketch of a plan - much like the science lab attached, I have no idea what we're doing.

Do you guys use any deployment apps or products that you would recommend? How does your deployment strategy work? Do you lock off the production org from everyone bar one or two people who can deploy?

Thanks!

Hi all,

I have the following challenge. At the moment we're working with two Sandboxes for our Development. One Sandbox is used for Development and the other for UAT. The UAT is also used for training and demo purposes, so we set up a lot of dummy accounts for our Super Users to try out different profiles and demo new functionalities after we've done a new release.

The problem is that we sometimes lose overview of what's been developed/deployed where as we have different people working and developing in our Sandboxes. Easiest solution is to refresh the Sandboxes and start from there, but then it takes a long time to reload all the dummy user accounts which our Super User will then have to set up the password for again.

Does anyone here have any experience with this and what are best practices to handle the requirement we have?

Thanks in advance for your support!

They indeed all have a NDA signed, but in my view it's always best practice to be as much risk-aversive as possible. Especially because we load in margin/revenue details and personal contact information we want to keep the exposure of this data as limited as possible.

Have you seen Trailhead? A great resource for learning more about the Salesforce Platform.
