Set Permissions for Net Zero Cloud Objects

Permission Sets

So far in this project, you’ve set up users and profiles, assigning all the right permission sets. Next comes setting object-level permissions for Net Zero Cloud objects.

Safiya is ready to finish setting permissions, but unfortunately, she’ll be out of the office for a couple of weeks due to a family emergency. Luckily, she can leave a few admin-related tasks with Sam. He’s just finished the Admin Beginner Trail and cracked open the Setup and Maintain Net Zero Cloud Guide, so he puts on his dual purpose hat and gets to work configuring NTO’s org for Net Zero Cloud.

Sam Rajan, NTO’s chief sustainability officer with his sustainability/Salesforce deerstalker style hat.

A user with the Net Zero Cloud manager profile can create records for all the Net Zero Cloud objects. Although they can view and modify the records they’ve created, they need an additional permission set license to view and modify records created by other users.

In this step, you clone a permission set license so that the Joe Manager user can view and modify records that other users create, as needed for his role. Later, you extend Joe Manager’s access so he can manage reference data too—a task typically available to admins only.

Note

Because standard permission sets that come with the app can’t be modified, it is best practice to use a cloned permission set, and adjust it to suit your business needs.

First, clone the Net Zero Cloud Manager permission set.

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Permission Sets, and then select Permission Sets.
  2. Find the Net Zero Cloud Manager Permission Set.
  3. Clone it and use Net Zero Cloud Manager - clone for the Label. Appending “- clone” to the label helps you find it later on.
  4. Leave Session Activation Required unchecked.
  5. Save your changes.

Permission Set Assignment for Users

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Users, and then select Users.
  2. Select Manager, Joe.
  3. Scroll down to the Permission Set Assignments section and click Edit Assignments.
  4. Move Net Zero Cloud Manager - clone to the Enabled Permission Sets list.
  5. Save your changes.

Although Sam’s making progress, he is still a bit fuzzy on permission sets. Then he recalls Safiya sent him Permission Sets in Net Zero Cloud to clear things up. With his memory refreshed, Sam goes on to clone the Net Zero Cloud Auditor permission set and assign it to the Sam Auditor user. Optionally, go ahead and do the same in your Developer Edition org.

Note

The Jane Admin user does not need additional permissions for this project, so you don’t need to clone the Net Zero Cloud Admin permission set for Jane. The OOTB version is fine.

Once again, Sam’s glad that he and Safiya have been cross-training lately. Otherwise, NTO’s progress would have stalled out during Safiya’s leave. He’ll have to thank her again for sharing her crazy-good Salesforce admin skills!
