I've built a web component that works with the Wordpress site but when I try to add it by incorporating it into a Lightning Web Component the component appears on the page but I only get the containing div and none of the html content. We are trying to access for both Wordpress and Salesforce from a central location so any changes are reflected in both places instead needing to update on both sites. Is this possible?

Its possible to embed third party libraries in lwc(see documentation here). I personally have hard time embedding external javascript in LWC, I have run into issues with some things i have tried. Did you see chrome console, what exactly is the error coming when you load this?

Other alternative would be embedding your script inside visualforce page and embedding the VF page in your experience cloud page.
