I am working with an organization that currently uses Mail Chimp, but is new to Salesforce -- greenfield NPSP implementation. In the past, they have exported contacts from their old CRM into Mail Chimp and maintained the two lists separately. Moving forward, they would like Mail Chimp subscribers to sync with Salesforce contacts.
The Mail Chimp integration documentation does not address how to connect an existing subscriber with an existing contact; it only addresses creating new contacts in Salesforce from subscribers. Do I have to do a manual comparison (i.e. compare using email address) and save a subscriber Id on the contact record? Or is the sync managed via email address and I shouldn't have to do anything? How does the integration manage the connection between a particular subscriber and specific contact?
The organization do not have a paid Mail Chimp account, so finding it difficult to find answers without access to their technical support. Any insight is appreciated.
