Today I learned that the standard account, lead, and contact merge functionality will not reparent files, only attachments.

This is not listed as an issue on the developer.force.com documentation (https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.apexcode.meta/apexcode/langCon_apex_dml_examples_merge.htm) where it says:

"The merge operation merges up to three records into one of the records, deletes the others, and reparents any related records."

Its pretty easy to test.  I tested a few times on accounts and the results are clear - only attachments are reparented, not files.

Seems like a major issue for @Transitioning to Lightning Experience since only Files is supported in lightning.

Data loss is bad!  Orphaned files = data loss.  How is this OK?   Is there a known issue or anything on the roadmap to fix this?
