I may need a different installer, I was guessing apt-get, but it would make editing .bashrc easier.
Also, I installed vim into vscode, but I need to reinstall the plugin everytime I come back to codebuilder.

Here are the same search commands ignoring errors.
[muledx@ip-x-x-x-x .bashrc.d]$ find / -iname vi 2> /dev/null
[muledx@ip-x-x-x-x .bashrc.d]$ find / -iname vim 2> /dev/nul
In both cases, nothing is found.
Is there a way to install it so I may edit files inside the terminal?
