We're trying to create a Dev environment on a machine and trying to copy over all the resources like workbooks, datasources, schedules and extracts to this machine to closely mirror the production cluster.
Out production cluster has 6 VMs and this dev environment will only one 1 VM, so I wasn't sure if tsm backup on the cluster and restore on the Dev machine will work.
Will all the users get caried over this way ? or Should I be using another tool for this purpose ?
Anyone has any experience doing a similar thing ?

Bobo Oo, I would recommend having your non-PROD environments be 1/2 the size of your PROD and roughly mirror them in their functionality. Here's mine as an example:
Ideally, our non-PROD environments would mirror our PROD environment if cost and VM Admins weren't an issue 😄
When doing TS software upgrade testing I use a backup of our PROD environment and restore it on QA. This is how email notifications are set up on the TSM side:
And at the Site level:
All Schedules are turned off.
This allows the non-PROD environment to exist without creating a double workload against data sources and sending out emails/subscriptions that would confuse users (we have to remember that many business users aren't computer savvy). However, this allows us admins to allow a couple of schedules that users can then use for testing, for example, here's one I'll enable so they can test with it:
So for non-PROD testing you want to be creative with Scheduling by keeping it very limited (does it work or not) and using manual running:
