My org is having more and more events where folks walk in from the street to enjoy food or drink. Folks who just walk in simply buy a ticket, enjoy the refreshments, maybe learn a bit about our org, but might not ever be supports beyond the event. Payment can be cash, check, or cc. Newsletter signup is optional - filling out name and email or address is not required.
We use Campaigns to denote these events.
Do others in this situation record every attendee as a Contact? Even the ones for whom we have only name but no other contact info? And the cash payers all under a single Contact called "Cash"? That's what I've always done, but as our event activity grows I am rethinking whether it's worth the data entry cost and db clutter just to have SF be able to show me the correct count and total of donations on the Campaign page.
Or does anyone have any tricks for entering attendees in an aggregate way that saves data entry time but still lets SF roll up count and total of donations correctly on the Campaign?
