Can I have a donation record associate with a recurring gift?

When a new Recurring Gift record is created from our website, the Donation record is created for the first payment but not associated with the Recurring Gift. Is there a way to associate them after the fact (as in, not having to create a new Donation record for the first payment)?

    I only have a small amount of experience with the non-profit options, as compared to the basic version of salesforce.  Based on the Recurring Gift being created from your website, it sounds like there's been some custom integration done to accomplish that. So giving you an accurate answer depends on knowing your unique configuration. For example, the Nonprofit Starter Pack (NPSP) has a module called "Recurring Donations" that creates Donation records according to a periodic schedule. Are you using that module or something else?
