CTA Pro Tip Number 6

Today's tip is around Integration. Salesforce has their buzzwords (RPI-Request-Reply, RPI-Fire&Forget, Batch Data Sync) which are obviously great to know and good to put down in your answer. But, behind this you really need to have a solid and practical understanding of how an integration flow would work. Lets take an example. If you are going to synchronize a change to an Account record from Salesforce to SAP, how exactly would you do it? How would you notify middleware of the change? What would you do in the event of an error occuring? Would you block edits to the record whilst a sync is in progress? Think about these things and have a solid flow and approach in your CTA toolkit before appearing for the board.

    @Mitesh Mistry

Typically synchronous calls would be short-lived (default 10 secs for a callout in salesforce). Blocking an update while sync call is happening might be super important for mission-critical apps and most other apps should be fine with transaction isolation levels set up by salesforce database servers. Have you come across "blocking an update" scenarios very often?

How to start preparing for Salesforce Integration Architecture certification?

I want to learn more practically and also must be able to clear the certification.

The thing is , i don't have too much practical exposure in project using middle ware , so i must prepare by doing a simulation of middle ware and practise..

Could anyone suggest me how should i prepare?

Thanks,

Shiva RV

Moving data from Microsoft SQL Server to Wave:  Middleware vs. Custom?

Anyone have insights/experiences/links they can share?

We're exploring pros/cons and any insights contrasting different middleware options and approaches.

Our current assumptions:

  • Middleware
    • Faster/easier to configure
    • More future proof
    • "You get what you pay for"
  • Custom
    • Takes a while to build
    • Harder to maintain/add new functionality
    • May break from time to time with new releases

Any major differences we are overlooking?

Need suggestions- We are syncing sales cloud and service cloud data to another database via middleware for reporting and BI purpose. Every time  we do any changes on these objects, create/delete/update any fields , we have to change the middleware and provide the exact definition of objects/fields.

Is there any way that middleware can get the schema and data and then handle database sync by its own. for example - xml or JSON files have schema as well as data. end system parse the schema and collect the data. We want such robust connection while connecting with Salesforce. We have to modify SOQL query everytime when we do changes on Salesforce side.

This is possible, but I'm not a technical resource from an integration standpoint, I've just seen it done. You may want to talk to those that are managing your middleware to see what they offer. Perhaps leveraging the Salesforce API differently could be a solution.

Who are you using for middleware and BI?
