Hello all.

I have a workbook connected to 5 data sources from tableau online (which in turn are actually data sources from dropbox, extracted and set to refresh every hour)

When downloading this workbook from tableau online, it won't open in tableau reader because the connections to tableau online are live. But to my knowledge keeping the connections live is the only way the workbook will update based on the underlying data source refreshes. If our client wants to download the workbook from tableau online but they don't have tableau desktop, they won't be able to open the file and can only view it on tableau online. Is there not a way to make a tableau online downloadable worksheet that will open in tableau reader, but maintain the data refreshes from the published data sources?

Thank you!

    Hi null,

To resolve this issue, create an extract of the workbook's data source using Tableau Desktop.

    1. Open the original workbook in Tableau Desktop.
    2. Select the data source from the Data menu, and select Extract Data.
    3. Click the Extract button.
    4. Select File > Save As.
    5. In the Save As dialog box, from the Save as type drop-down list, select Tableau Packaged Workbook (*.twbx).
    6. Open the new packaged workbook from Tableau Reader
