Hello everyone,

I’d like to know how granting access using hierarchy works, particularly in scenarios where the sharing settings are either public read/write/transfer or private.

When the sharing setting is set to public read/write/transfer, access is generally more open. How Grant Access Using Hierarchies is works?

    Hi @KSHITIJA JOSHI,

    • If the OWD is public read/write/transfer you don't see any impact.
    • For other options (Public Read Only / Private) you can see the impact. The above role hierarchy user will gain access to the records belongs to subordinate roles.
    • Example: The Organization-Wide Default (OWD) is set to Private. In this scenario, Role B reports to Role A in the role hierarchy. If a user in Role B has Read-Only access to a record (Record1), the user in Role A will automatically inherit Read-Only access to the same record, even if the Role A user does not have direct access to the record.
