I've been very interested in the conversation started by @Jodi Nemser-Abrahams re what happens to Opportunities when a marriage or divorce occurs (any chance there will be an article that spells out best practices around this?). Similarly, what happens when a business changes hands?

Let's say Dave Smith owns Seagull Inn. He is a business member and there are Opportunities associated with the Inn, and also personal ones from him. Then he sells the Inn to Roberta Jones. How do we make sure he gets the primary credit for all of Seagull Inn's donations before the business changed hands?

Using NPSP with Account model. Also: I haven't yet migrated Opportunities from our Legacy dB, so if there's anything I should know or do related to this, please advise. Thanks!

    Thanks @Trish Perkins

! It does seem unfortunate when we consider a Household to be two equal people that we have to give one of them less-than-equal credit for their Household support upon a divorce (though I do understand logistically that this would look like double the donation if we have it on both). Seems this is the very reason the non-primary person should receive Soft Credit, and then retain that Soft Credit on divorce. Is this what you are saying, that you use Soft Credits this way?

I was pleased to read "the nice thing about Household Soft Credits in the NPSP is that they happen automatically—you don’t have to set them." I made all of the Setup changes as suggested by

@Judi Sohn's article on the subject, and the article by @Jon Michael Varese

says Soft Credit (as well as Matched Donor) is among six out-of-the-box OCRs, though it's not in mine, and not available in Soft Credit Settings>Soft Credit Roles (same goes with any Matched Donor Role). I don't want to add new items to the picklist if they are already supposed to be there.

What I remain curious about is this: If Household Soft Credits happen automatically—and I see that they DO (hooray!) by testing it and running the Batch update—what is Opportunity Contact Role called "Soft Credit" (which, again, I don't have in my picklist) supposed to be for? Do OCRs dictate the behavior of rollups? My test behaved properly without changing the default OCRs.
