When attempting to Sync with Salesforce (Outlook to Win), I am getting an error message that I am attempting to create a duplicate record.  The contact does exist in Salesforce, but I am trying to update the Fax # so I would think the process would be that the system matches up everything (Name, Company, Email) and then uses the information in Outlook to populate the Fax # field.

Help is appreciated.  I can't roll SFO out to my team until I can clearly explain to them how it works.

Thanks!

I understand, but one of them could be the potential reason for why a duplicate is going to be created (reasons given in the link above).

But as you say you want to update the existing contact, but the system is actually trying to create a duplicate instead of updating the same existing one, then, in that case, the above link could be helpful to know that in which situations, duplicate insertions happen from outlook to Salesforce.

And why Salesforce is giving you the error, because you might have configured some validation rule or duplication rules in your Salesforce org, which are not allowing the duplicate contact to be inserted. Please check that as well.
