Learn About Trailblazer Ranks

Learning Objectives

After completing this unit, you’ll be able to:

  • Explain the how and why of the Trailhead learning platform.
  • Discuss Trailblazer ranks and why they’re important.

What Is Trailhead?

Trailhead is the fun way to learn. As a gamified online learning platform, Trailhead allows individuals, teams, and companies to skill up for the future by learning Salesforce skills, from CRM to Flow Builder, along with crucial interpersonal and business skills, like data literacy and emotional intelligence.

Trailhead offers two types of badges: instructional yet approachable modules that test your knowledge with quizzes and hands-on challenges, and step-by-step, hands-on projects. As you complete modules and projects, you earn points and badges while climbing the Trailblazer ranks.

How to Learn on Trailhead

We created Trailhead with this question in mind: Why isn’t learning as fun and easy as playing a game? From there, we built Trailhead to make learning accessible to anyone, to bring people to jobs, and help change gender and race ratios in the tech workforce. Trailhead took off because of a little bit of magic and a lot of community. More than 6 million Trailblazers have learned new skills on Trailhead, working their way through more than 1500 badges (and counting).

Trailhead is the best place to learn everything there is to know about Salesforce. You can learn about the company itself, and its products—and even get hands-on with those products in your free Trailhead playground. Once you’re ready to take your skills to the next level, you can sign up for a free Trailhead account (no Salesforce CRM account needed) at Trailhead.com. Many Salesforce customers use Trailhead to help skill up their teams, but you don’t have to be employed by a Salesforce customer to use Trailhead. Trailhead empowers anyone to be a Trailblazer with Salesforce.

Can’t be at your desk? You can take all of this learning with you anywhere on our free mobile app, Trailhead GO. Prefer a classroom setting? You also have the opportunity to learn with virtual and in-person learning through Trailhead Academy.

As a gamified learning platform, Trailhead features quizzes, badges, and little bursts of confetti to celebrate progress, bringing a fun spin to workplace development training, which is generally pretty boring. Trailhead has a unique way of rallying people’s enthusiasm and interest in learning about tech and AI. We even built in a rank structure so the more badges and points you earn, the higher up the ranks you climb.

What Are Trailblazer Ranks?

Trailblazer Ranks showcase where you are on your Trailhead learning journey. Each module or project you complete earns you a badge and points that go towards your Trailblazer Rank. You climb the ranks as you learn new skills.

Trailblazer Ranks from Scout to All Star Ranger.

You start out as a Scout with zero badges and zero points. Once you earn your first badge you become a Hiker, and then work your way up to Ranger which is 100 badges and 50,000 points. Ranger was the top rank for the first 8 years Trailhead existed—and something many Trailblazers strived for. But as the number of Trailhead badges grew and Trailblazers continued to learn and earn, we extended the ranks even higher! In 2022 we debuted Double Star, Triple Star, Four Star, Five Star, and All Star Ranger. Each rank jumps an additional 100 badges and 50,000 points from Ranger.

The Importance of Reaching Ranger Rank and Beyond

Ranks are a great way to show your qualifications, and proof of your learning. Just like if you go to a university to earn a degree, then earn a masters to show you truly honed your skills and expertise, ranks show your dedication and commitment to learning on Trailhead. Head to your profile, which is like your online resume, and check out the skills graph for a breakdown of which skills you’re honing with Trailhead.

By the time you reach Ranger rank, you generally have a strong understanding of Salesforce, and our products, and have gotten hands on and learned by doing in your playground. The more you climb and learn, the more you may be drawn to role-based learning and follow a more specific path. The great thing about Trailhead is you can pivot your learning or interest at any point. Perhaps you start your journey as a Marketer and discover you love getting hands on in the setup menu, and suddenly you’re following an Admin path. Then you try your hand at writing Apex code and this really resonates, so you dive into a more Developer-focussed learning path.

Whether you use ranking up for your own personal learning achievement and motivation, or to set you apart from the crowd, every Trailblazer’s learning journey is unique. The Ranger ranks are a universal stamp of your commitment and investment in your own skills and learning with Salesforce and are with you forever.
