I need to switch the source connector for an existing data stream. Since it's not possible to change the source of an existing data stream, my plan was to create a new data stream for the new source and remove the old data stream.
However, you can't delete a data stream if its underlying DLO is mapped to one or more DMOs.
"No problem", I thought — I’ll simply remove the object mappings first. But it's not possible without first deleting all activations, calculated insights, identity resolution rulesets, and more.
I sort of understand why Salesforce enforces this, but if there’s a legitimate reason to remove a data stream, it seems like you have to delete everything and start over. Am I missing something?
I’m exploring potential workarounds, such as:
- Adding a filter to the DLO to exclude all records in that data space (Salesforce Help)
- Using a delete file to remove records from the DLO (Salesforce Help)
This feels like a common scenario—how do others handle it? Are there better approaches?
I've done the full rollback path so I definitely appreciate the pain involved.
The other thing I've done if the new data stream will map to the same DMOs then I create the new stream, map the DLOs to the DMOs to preserve the integrity and then unmap and remove the old stream. Still not ideal depending on Identity Resolution impacts but really all we have for now. I wish it was much easier!
