We are looking into the process of integrating our ERP system with Salesforce CPQ, and we are identifying complexities around handling Project-Based Items or Engineered to Order items. I hope to gain some insights from those who have walked this path before us.
- ERP to CPQ: How do you handle Project-Based or Engineered-to-Order items where a Project BOM will be created on the ERP order line?
- Middleware: What middleware solutions are you using for this integration, if any?
- Order Triggers: What triggers the Salesforce CPQ quote lines to be sent to the ERP as order lines?
- Change Orders: How do you manage change orders post-quote? Do you have to revisit the ERP Project BOM to make these changes?
- SKU Reconfiguration: Is there an efficient method, perhaps through a configuration engine, to reconfigure item SKUs to reduce manual errors?
- Order Without Quotes: Is this done in the ERP system when a quote is not required and you need to generate an order directly? Or is there a more streamlined process in Salesforce to create an order using a configuration engine?
- Project Number Generation: Can the project number be generated within Salesforce CPQ? Does CPQ have the capability to handle this specific functionality?
- Syncing Back to SFDC: Once the new item number is generated in the ERP, should this be synced back to Salesforce's Product2 object? What are the advantages or disadvantages of doing so?
