Tableau User Group board | Edinburgh (Scotland)

Now got access to Tableau proper (not just student access) and also the e-learning. Keen to get involved with the community and start learning the basics. Are there any sessions coming up soon?

Hi,

I am trying to forecast in Tableau but using R to run the forecast using "SCRIPT_REAL".  I am not getting what I expected, does anyone have experience using R with Tableau for forecasting?

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks

James

    Hi James,

Hopefully your have already made progress wit the forecasting project. If not feel free to drop me more details. Here's some detail on one of the common issues you may experience in the interim. The SCRIPT_functions in Tableau are treated as table calculations. So worth considering Order of Operations. For example, you might be seeing unexpected results as the data is already filtered out, etc.

The order of operations article below is well worth having in your Tableau favourites in any case:

Hello - not sure if the forum allows for this - but I need help in creating a survey file in Tableau - for an interview prep.  I wondered if anyone was willing to do a TaskRabbit equivalent consultancy in Edinburgh either by phone or in person this evening - happy to pay a reasonable fee.  I tried following the Data Revelations By Steve Wexler, January 15, 2017, but have succeeded in tying myself in knots.  My issue is combining survey data with numeric and text responses in a tall and thin format.  https://www.datarevelations.com/datajustso_10.html

hi all, was at todays "Impact with your data" and met lots of new folks who were interested in another TUG session.... so I was going to propose a New to Tableau session. Where we can get along 4-5 experiences users to assist and work with 10ish newbies who want to kick start their journey! Any interest??

I would be interested if by beginner you mean a total beginner with only access to the free version of Tableau currently that I struggle to log in!  I've only got as far as uploading a dataset and going through the online tutorials.   I know what I want to replicate and it would make an enormous difference to my organisation so I would love a kickstart getting there.

    Thanks,

Thanks for hosting last week's meeting Liam. As a fairly new user, the live demo went right over my head, but I won't let it put me off!

For future sessions, what would be really helpful for me would be something about getting started with Tableau. Hopefully that would be of interest to more than just new users like me, as I guess more experienced users often have to get newbies up to speed. So some tips and tricks for taking someone up the learning curve might be a good session.

    Cheers

    Alan

Please use this thread to let us know your thoughts.

I thought the general discussion worked well but there were also a couple of suggestions around more demos and the opportunity to capture questions / challenges beforehand using this forum to gauge the most common themes to cover.

Do we want to get more 'hands-on' with the data during the meet-ups? Could anyone from Tableau share some examples of what has worked well at other User Groups?

I look forward to hearing your great ideas!

Cheers

Robbie
