How can I optimize my TWBX workbooks when using Access as a source?
I'm currently using just one or two tables from a very large Access database, but converting this into a TWBX duplicates the entire database-- including all those tables, queries, etc, that are unused by Tableau.
Is there a novice trick I'm overlooking that says "use just the data"?
Do I need to export it out of Access into another form so it can be converted more efficiently?
Because I'm working doing multiple queries through Tableau Desktop (not Server), each extra manual step between platforms reduces productivity and increases the chance of error, not to mention makes me cranky. Please let me know what you think!
Hi Michael,
Can you please elaborate on how the TWBX is duplicating the entire database?
When you create an extract on a source, Tableau will effectively 'duplicate' your source into a an extract file but there are a number of advantages to creating an extract. If this approach doesn't work for you though, you may switch your connection to a live connection so it queries the datasource directly. Here's some fun reading on the topic - TDE or Live?
