Is it possible to add a Text (Long Area) as a dependent field? I noticed my field doesn't show as an option to choose to make it a dependent field.

Text (Long Area) fields are not supported to be a dependent field
The data types that can be used as dependent fields in Salesforce are:
- Picklist
- Checkbox
- Auto Number
- Date
- Date/Time
- Number
