My client organization is using NPSP and the Household Account model. The official Salesforce guidance is that all contacts are associated with households and affiliations are created to connect organizations. This is not what the original Salesforce consultant did. Instead, only some contacts got households and most had their Account be their place of business/organization. 99% of business at this organization is done with other organizations and their employees, it is not an individual donor organization, but it may become one. 99% of opportunities are made by organizations not personal contributions. We are using a blended sort of account model and trying to evaluate whether we should associate all Contacts with Households moving forward. Anyone else have any experience with a situation like this or a recommendation on how to proceed or where to read more? Thanks!

@Tech Impact one of my Non profit clients uses the household account model for all contacts and we work with both individual donors and companies/organizations. We chose to enable the contacts to multiple accounts feature in SF so a contact can be related to their household account and any other organization account. This works much better than affiliations for us because we also have an experience cloud site and it allows us to share all related accounts with the contact so they only need 1 login. If you enable this feature before you change the account on your contact records, it will save the current account relationship as an indirect relationship and create a new direct account contact relationship for the household account. You can also have start and end dates for the relationship and mark them active or inactive. There is even a roles multi select picklist so you can define what the contact's role is for the relationship. Here is more info on all of this. https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sf.shared_contacts_overview.htm&type=5 Hope this helps you with your decision.
